It's Coming

It is starting to feel like fall. I can't really explain it.

The trees aren't quite changing and there are no leaves on the ground, but the air is different.

It is just as hot as it was in August, but the light is different. It is almost orange.

Flowers are still blooming abundantly, but the colors are changing. The sunflowers are breathtaking, but the pinks have faded.

My sweaters and jackets are calling out to me. My boots are begging to be worn.

Soup and bread is starting to reappear on the menu at our house, after unappreciated for a long, hot, summer.

I can't wait.

I know what you mean about the air and the light. It is different. I am happy we can open the windows at night. Soup and warmer meals are fast approaching. My favorite is homemade chicken soup with homemade rolls. Yum.

Last night, I left the grocery store at 9:30 and felt a little chilly on my way to the car. It made me smile. :)

I made steaming pasta e fagioli last night with warm, buttered breadsticks, just hoping the summer would take the hint. No luck, still upper 90's in Texas.

I am so ready! This weekend I got out the thermal blankets for the kids' beds...as we can no longer sleep with the windows open--it's that chilly at night.

WHen the Caboose crawled into her bed that night, she smiled and went "Ohhhhh, I love these covers." lol

I'm ready!

There is something magical about the change in the seasons - especially the change to fall. I have already started reading "Something Wicked This Way Comes" - an almost yearly tradition for me. Ray Bradbury really captures the season for me with his words.

Your poem is beautiful and inspiring. I think I am going to post some of my poems on my blog. I have been holding back because it isn't considered "manly" to write poetry - but what the heck.

My blog is http://balance-today.com
Please cheer me on (as I'm going to need it).
